The goal of this shoot was to capture the warmth and color of the fall season while showcasing Junior in a sharp, dressed‑up look. The images were taken for Sandra and her son, and the setting was intentionally chosen to highlight the natural hues of autumn.
Challenges and Techniques
Capturing a child in motion requires skill that I had not previously exercised at this level. My experience in wildlife photography proved surprisingly beneficial. Rapid movement and changing light conditions made the shots feel dynamic, and the results speak for themselves.
Equipment
I used a Canon 24‑105 mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens—commonly referred to as the kit zoom. This lens’s versatility allowed me to shoot at various distances and poses. At the telephoto end, the lens produced dramatic portraits that blur the line between a typical zoom and a dedicated portrait lens. The f/4 aperture, far from being a disadvantage, contributed to a pleasing depth of field and highlighted Junior’s features.
Gallery Overview
The attached gallery demonstrates the style I was aiming for and the satisfaction with which the images turned out. Each photograph reflects the combined effect of careful composition, lighting, and the natural energy of a child playing in fall.
